What is the minimum order quantity?
For newly developed custom parts, PairGears has no minimum order quantity (MOQ)—we can develop and produce even 1 piece. However, for new custom products, customers are required to cover the tooling cost (tools/fixtures/cutters/gauges needed to develop and manufacture the part). MOQ commonly means the smallest quantity a supplier will accept per order.
What “no MOQ” means for your order
“MOQ” is often used by manufacturers to set a minimum order size so production runs remain efficient.
Our policy for new development is different: we can start with low-volume prototypes so you can validate fit and performance before committing to larger volumes.
Why tooling cost is required for new custom parts
Even if the quantity is small, a new gear/shaft often needs dedicated cutters, fixtures, tooling, and inspection gauges to hit drawing requirements and repeatability. Tooling costs are the expenses associated with designing and making the tools/fixtures used in manufacturing.
What your final MOQ / unit price may depend on
While “no MOQ” applies to development, the most economical order size (and your unit price) depends on:
• Tooling scope (new cutters/fixtures/gauges needed or not)
• Process route (heat treat, grinding, gear measurement requirements)
• Accuracy & inspection pack (FAI/full reports/PPAP if required)
• Volume plan (trial + first batch + annual forecast)
